This film follows the Percy Jackson books, which I actually really enjoyed reading when I was younger and the film follows quite closely what I imagined the story to be like in the book. Percy is raised by a single mum in the US, and has trouble reading, thinking it's dsylexia. However, Percy then discovers that he's a demi-god and is the son of Poseidon. He then has to travel to a camp to develop his skills along with the other demi-gods, who have all grown up knowing what they are, so he feels like an outsider. However he quickly finds allies and is needed when Zeus's lightning is stolen and him and his friends have to use the skills that they've learnt in class in order to help.
