As a fan of the director Tim Burton, I kind of wished he left the cult classic "Alice in Wonderland" alone. This is not because the film was terrible nor were the actors and characters awfully depicted; I just felt that the naive, stubborn Alice was lost to the depths of darkness in the plot surrounding her, for example, the viciousness of the Queen of Hearts. In ways, I feel that Johnny Depp's portrayal of the Mad Hatter was too focused on the mad... I cannot believe I actually said that but it is just how I felt. For me, it would have been more interesting to show the character of the Mad Hatter in a more lighthearted manner with moments where he still feels sane; this would have made his moments of madness more powerful to watch. Truth be told, I did not understand the importance of Anne Hathaway's White Queen... she felt quite irrelevant to the plot. I hate to say it but the voice quality and working of Alan Rickman was too good to this disrespectful take on the lovable Alice in Wonderland franchise.
