X-Men

pretty decent for its time.  pre-9/11, pre Marvel peak, pre new feminist wave, you can sense right from the get go how different life (and Hollywood) was when this movie came out. it somehow has a few relevant themes that could be translated into today's social issues, but maybe I'm looking too deep into it. fun, short, kind of cheesy, but ptetty much a good flick.

X-men was a rebirth for comic book films. After devolving into silliness in the 90s it was the first to show that with a compelling cast and talented writers super hero films could be more than just kids movies. In particular it is highlighted by iconic performances by Patrick Stewart and Hugh Jackman as Professor X and Wolverine, respectively. Unfortunately, the film has not aged particularly well and has been eclipsed entirely by Disney's MCU, but it should be given credit for starting the modern super hero film phenomenon.

Honestly, this movie is just okay. The real standout for me is Hugh Jackman cause he kills it as Wolverine, but that's the biggest highlight. It's super entertaining and I've watched it multiple times, but I don't watch it for its substance. I watch it cause sometimes it's fun to just get caught up in stupid superhero movies.

the first x-men movie. This shows how prof x. builds his team from scratch and becoming one of the most powerful team on the planet. These children all started with nothing at first.
