True Detective Season 1
2014 · HBO · Drama/Mystery/Action/Thriller/Crime/TV Drama
An American anthology police detective series utilizing multiple timelines in which investigations seem to unearth personal and professional secrets of those involved, both within or outside the law.
The first season of HBO's "True Detective" explores a plot surrounding a tiresome seventeen-year-long hunt for a Louisiana serial killer and murderer. To cast Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson as the detectives in this hit drama show was an amazing and daring move as both actors are more associated with film - a genre very different to television shows. The eight-episode series will get you hooked on the thrill of crime investigations with its unique and fresh twists and turns.
The first season of this show is just great. The main characters are entertaining and have good chemistry, in that they hate each other, yet are forced together. It's an often used dynamic, but utilized with great effect here. The mystery is also interesting, though I wasn't that happy with the ending. It seems almost easy, but it is still a fine ending.
One of the best original shows to come on television. True Detective explores serial murders in middle America through the lens of two completely opposite officers. The show explores religion and the meaning of life through this intense murder case.
