Heretic
Nov 10, 2024.
Heretic is a surprisingly good funny-stressful (blueberry flavoured) mixture. The script is brilliantly written. Setups have multiple pay offs, dialogs have meaning and are sometimes hilarious in a good way, and the story is engaging while also subverting a lot of expectations from the genre. Thatcher and East are excellent and play very interesting and quite complex characters. They ground the film in (some) reality and on the other hand, Grant really succeeds at elevating the movie in a wild direction. His casual demeanor makes him as scary as funny, and as interesting to think about his perspective. Unfortunately, even if the movie is excellent, it feels a bit out of breath as we hit a critical point of the movie and it does happen again towards the end. I want to precise, these scenes are still very good, they just don't hit as hard. Despite a few flaws, I highly recommend.
