A year after losing his friend in a tragic 4,000-foot fall, former ranger Gabe Walker and his partner, Hal, are called to return to the same peak to rescue a group of stranded climbers, only to learn the climbers are actually thieving hijackers who are looking for boxes full of money.

There is absolutely no wonder as to why Cliffhanger won the Academy Award for Best Visuals as the film is an unbelievably aesthetically pleasing adventure. The thriller reveals a plot to which a former mountain rescuer is pitted against a group of criminals who have misplaced their money following a plane crash to the iconic location, the Rocky Mountains. Through an intense period of persuading, the plot evolves so that our main protagonist ends up helping a group of stranded hikers who are not who they appear to be... Very suspenseful!

This movie is obviously not shot very well; the blue-screens are easily identifiable, the set is obviously made of rubber, and the actors are not the greatest. This movie is lacking authenticity which does not engage the audience very well. But if you ignore all that, I guess one could enjoy this movie for the action and adventure.

I saw it twice and liked it vastly more the second time around, when I'd adjusted my expectations and had my bearings from the get-go. Then it became about digging the spectacle.
