Irréversible
2002 · Crime/Drama/Mystery/Thriller · France
1h 35m

Events over the course of one traumatic night in Paris unfold in reverse-chronological order as the beautiful Alex is brutally raped and beaten by a stranger in the underpass. Her boyfriend and ex-lover take matters into their own hands by hiring two criminals to help them find the rapist so that they can exact revenge. A simultaneously beautiful and terrible examination of the destructive nature of cause and effect, and how time destroys everything.

A very chaotic, disturbing, visually appealing, and thoughtful film. Playing out backwards, with the end at the beginning, the film starts out very chaotic, confusing, and dream-like; but if you can get past the very disturbing and prolonged rape scene at the center of the movie, the acting of the two leads and the intimate moments they share toward the end put everything into perspective and make the whole experience worthwhile, and in my opinion -- a great piece of filmmaking!
