2013 · Action/Drama/SF · United States, Canada
1h 49m

In the year 2159, two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes (Jodie Foster), a hard line government official, will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn’t stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky Max (Matt Damon) is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that, if successful, will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.

Elysium is a bad film that had all the makings of a good film. Excellent director, great actors, and a fantastic concept, the problem with Elysium is that it never delivers on its high-minded concept and so it collapses under its own weight. It not un-watchable it's just disappointing.

Visually, this movie is very interesting and entertaining, but plot-wise, it falls a little bit short of my expectations. There is so much action that your attention is captured, but once you get past that you realize there isn't much of a storyline holding all the violence together

A film premise that was too good to be true. The production design of this film is amazing. The story itself sounds on paper as a masterpiece but for some reason it was missing the heart. I wish we felt more in tune with our protagonist throughout the film.
