The Perfect Storm
The Perfect Storm
2000 · Disaster/Thriller/Adventure/Drama/Action · United States
2h 10m

In October 1991, a confluence of weather conditions combined to form a killer storm in the North Atlantic. Caught in the storm was the sword-fishing boat Andrea Gail. Magnificent foreshadowing and anticipation fill this true-life drama while minute details of the fishing boats, their gear and the weather are juxtaposed with the sea adventure.

Based on a true story, "The Perfect Storm" is a well-scripted, well-acted masterpiece. The movie depicts a plot where courageous and brave women and men risk their lives to the tremendous forces of Mother Nature when living out their day to day lives as fisher-people. Director Wolfgang Petersen cleverly portrayed a fearful turn of events on the Halloween of 1991, faced by our lovable characters, who are left stranded in the wrath of a tempest. The story moves past the characters and into the world of action, emotions, superb visuals and a whole lotta drama. The movie was a great nod to the best-selling book, written by author Sebastian Junger.

The Perfect Storm is an action movie that'll keep you on your toes. Casting and acting by all involved was perfect and you never once feel like anything is overacted or overly dramatic, just that you are somehow involved with the fear that had to have been involved on that night. A great film.

A terrible storm beyond your imagination threatens a boat of fishermen. It sounds like it should be suspenseful and interesting, but this movie fails to be either. The visuals are undeniably good, but the plot and cast were lackluster and I couldn't get myself to enjoy this movie at all.
