"My Best Friend's Wedding" made me realise that the beautiful and stunning young Julia Roberts was unbelievably typecast to the genre of romantic comedy and there is no surprise as to why as she truly emulates and fits the role of Julianne Potter. I am pretty certain that this movie would not go down well with contemporary audiences nor with a feminist reading as the main character ruthlessly (yet hilariously) tries to sabotage her best friends wedding in order to get her man. We can definitely see where "Bride Wars" got its inspiration from!

I'm a pretty big fan of Julia Roberts and she did a great job, but the movie is pretty bad. It makes the main character so unlikable that not only do you not root for her and her friend to get together, you hope bad things happen to her to punish as a result. Not an overall great set up for the character with whom we're forced to spend most of the movie. An average 90s rom-com that wasn't anything special or appealing.

This romance film is not hugely innovative or special but is definitely a tolerable romantic comedy if I've ever seen one. A little bit cheesy at times but it is much better than most of the other movies of the era. I find myself just rewatching it to reminisce.
