The gritty realism and human portrayal of the “heroes” in this alternate history grabbed my attention from the beginning of the film and dragged me by the nose all the way to its shocking conclusion.

I once made a handshake up with my brother that was based on the characters in this very film. This a film deeply misunderstood for its time that people tend to revisit, or re-edit it in new ways to try and find its potential. I do think the story, in terms of superhero stories, is way more interesting as a whole than MANY of the Marvel Avenger films that made probably 15 times as much money in the box office as Watchmen. Watchmen took chances and I believe that HBO is making a show out of Watchmen due to this untapped potential.

When the writer of a book hates the film adaptation you should pay attention. Doesn't mean they are right, but you should look at their point of view. Watchmen is one of these films. Based on the classic graphic novel by Allen Moore it tries to be so respectful to the source material it fails as a film. It's convoluted and dense, and utterly forgettable. Not that it's necessarily a bad film - it's just not good.

The controversy of its adaptation aside, I think this is a very well made film, with a very interesting point. The characters, while cliché, does their part and are interesting to follow. The mystery of the story is also pretty decent, and the style and action are just gorgeous. Love it to bits.
