George Clooney plays the dry cynical character of Ryan Bingham, an executive who specializes in "downsizing". Ryan lives out of his suitcase, traveling the country for the sole purpose terminating unwanted employees day after day. Just as Ryan is about to reach his life-long goal of the ten million mile frequent flyer mark some major changes come his way. Changes that threaten to crack the cold heartless exterior that is Ryan Bingham.

Reading the description I find this film very relatable to many today. Today, many desire to have careers where they get to travel anywhere anytime; but many don’t think about the amount of hours of their life will be spent at the airport. As someone who just travels to and from home during holidays already knows that I’ve wasted multiple hours in an airport or an airplane then on earth with my friends and family. I think this life is only for certain individuals and so I’m intrigued to see if George Clooney’s character is one of them.

I haven't seen this movie yet, but I'd like to. I hear that the acting is great and the story is substantive, even emotionally moving with strong, realistic messages that apply to real life. I don't get a great sense of what the movie is actually about, but since everyone else seems to approve, I figure I'll try it out.

The construction is deliberately episodic, and individual settings often appear to owe more to the modern conceptions of stage-technique than to the cinema. But the ingenuity with which the episodes are assembled sets a new level in film-construction.

Up in the Air is one of my top ten films of all time. A film about someone who decides to not commit himself to anyone or anything and finds that his only ‘home’ is being at the airport or on the plane where he doesn’t really have to commit himself to any particular place in between destinations. He fires people for a living, for bosses who are too cowardly to do it themself. What happens when he meets someone he actually likes though, in the air, on the road? He will have to stop his life and face his problems at some point.
