Scream may be a cut above the gore fests that line the dimly lit back wall at your video store, but it is a far cry from genre classics like Halloween or Craven's own Nightmare On Elm Street.

Scream is a classic 90s morality play horror that every highschool kid saw. The cast and plot are consequentially 90s. Not the best in the genre, but certainly one of the best from that decade and very influential. It'll give you some genuine frights, and somehow angry at your parents at the same time.

Scream is a movie of complete horror hokum. The movie thrives on horror cliches but what makes it distinguishable and different from all others is the element of bloody humour, with characters being knocked off one by one in the most ridiculous ways. Be prepared for a "shock-flick" moment when the killer is revealed. A movie with surprising twist and turns despite its cliche value.
