1h 23m

This colorful adventure tells the story of an impetuous mermaid princess named Ariel who falls in love with the very human Prince Eric and puts everything on the line for the chance to be with him. Memorable songs and characters -- including the villainous sea witch Ursula.

A film that undoubtedly started the Disney Renaissance, with beautiful animation, memorable songs and characters, and a masterful story.

For any little girl in the 1990s, Jodi Benson was a Goddess to the ears with her voice talents for The Little Mermaid's protagonist, Ariel. I am aware that Ariel gets a lot of unpopular opinions about literally selling herself and her body for a man but I think emphasis should be placed upon her love for a Whole New World. Ariel wishes to explore beyond her own horizon and escape her notion of reality which I feel all viewers can relate to at some point of the other. I appreciated the additional storylines concerning her family, especially her father King Triton as it brought through the idea of having family disputes even if your family is not necessarily dysfunctional and is still caring! This completely differs with the usual hateful Godmother and I appreciated this complex look into family and family values and sometimes, having to break them to find our own happiness. May be a deep interpretation but it is what I felt.

An all time favorite for all girls. A film that expresses how though we are fortunate for what we have we cannot control our desire to want more than what we have a quench our curiosity to learn more about what we don’t know or what is unfamiliar to us. It also goes to show us that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side as we hope
