Romeo + Juliet
Romeo + Juliet
1996 · Drama/Romance · United States, Mexico, Australia
2h 00m

In director Baz Luhrmann's contemporary take on William Shakespeare's classic tragedy, the Montagues and Capulets have moved their ongoing feud to the sweltering suburb of Verona Beach, where Romeo and Juliet fall in love and secretly wed. Though the film is visually modern, the bard's dialogue remains.

While this movie is almost hilariously bad, it’s depiction is actually one of the most accurate to the original intention of the story. Both of the leads are excellent in this and their acting prowess is certainly felt. The romance is actually easier to understand when portrayed in this format. Plus the sass of the side characters is hilarious to watch. The adaptation of Shakespeare plays is hard to master, but this film is one of the better attempts, capturing what made Romeo and Juliet so intriguing without muddling the intent of the story. Too often the intention is seen as a love story instead of youthful foolishness and the consequence of senseless violence. An excellent portrayal and good movie.

It is usually very hard to bring to life a Shakespeare tragedy but I do believe that This film did a great job of it while putting a modern twist in it without loosing the original spark. Leonardo DiCaprio, as always, did an amazing job as Romeo making your heart melt at the gracefulness of the film 💙
