Bates Motel
Bates Motel
2013 · A&E · Crime/Thriller/Mystery/Horror/Drama/TV Series
United States

A "contemporary prequel" to the 1960 film Psycho, depicting the life of Norman Bates and his mother Norma prior to the events portrayed in Hitchcock's film, albeit in a different fictional town and in a modern setting. The series begins after the death of Norma's husband, when she purchases a motel located in a coastal Oregon town so she and Norman can start a new life.

Although I have never watched this movie, after reading the overview I feel like this would be a very good movie because it really attracts the viewer with its unique plot. I feel like it’s a slow starter, but after watching through the first few episodes it gets better.

The first season of the television series "Bates Motel" made clever use of manipulation of the mind and terrifyingly suspenseful fear tactics, coinciding with consistently sharp character development and brought light to wonderfully uncomfortable relationships within families. I believe the television series adaptation is a great contemporary spin to the movie. Hitchcock's work has been recreated and brought to life for a larger audience!

This is definitely a creepy one. Although I didn't watch all of it, I really enjoyed what I did watch. I felt that it was an interesting take on what would have led to Norman becoming the monster he is in Psycho. Because I didn't finish it I can't give it more than three stars, because there was clearly something not great about it if it didn't keep my attention. Though honestly I might go back and give it another try.

Based on the classic movie Psycho, Bates Motel follows the life of Norman Bates and his mother. The show was really interesting at first, but I found myself losing interest as the series continued on.
