In the glamour of 1950s post-war London, renowned dressmaker Reynolds Woodcock and his sister Cyril are at the center of British fashion, dressing royalty, movie stars, heiresses, socialites, debutants and dames with the distinct style of The House of Woodcock. Women come and go through Woodcock’s life, providing the confirmed bachelor with inspiration and companionship, until he comes across a young, strong-willed woman, Alma, who soon becomes a fixture in his life as his muse and lover. Once controlled and planned, he finds his carefully tailored life disrupted by love.

I don’t think I’ve ever watched a movie like this before. The emotions are so rare that sometimes it’s uncomfortable to watch, because it feels like I’m peeking at someone else’s private moment. Distance and intimacy accompany each other throughout the movie. The characters of Reynold, Alma, and Cyril are not only portrayed well; they are executed to something close to perfection through their language, persona, and individual movements. The movie left me wondering how I actually feel about it, but it moved something within me, which makes me realize that it is indeed executed well and truly unique.

일을 최우선가치로 여길 수 밖에 없는 DNA를 가진 남자와 그런 남자가 욕심나서 자신만의 방식으로 사랑하기를 택한여자. 둘 다 서로의 다름을 이해하는 모습은 느껴졌으나 사랑의 올바른 방향에 대해 생각해보게 된다.
