Framed in the 1940s for the double murder of his wife and her lover, upstanding banker Andy Dufresne begins a new life at the Shawshank prison, where he puts his accounting skills to work for an amoral warden. During his long stretch in prison, Dufresne comes to be admired by the other inmates -- including an older prisoner named Red -- for his integrity and unquenchable sense of hope.

This is one of the best films ever made, and has inspired many films since, including the fantastic series 'prison break'. The film follows the main character, but the other characters in the film are also really interestingly developed. It's set in a prison, and we see different relationships between the prisoners play out. Despite the length of the film, you won't want it to end and are left hanging until the very end of the film. Although the characters are convicts, you really create an emotional attachment to all of them, despite how nasty some of them are.
