Relocating to Lisbon, and still feeling remorse over his impulsive killing of his faithless wife, Gelin manages to find love in the form of gorgeous widow Francoise Arnoul. Alas, it turns out that Arnoul has a sordid past of her own, leaving our hero sadder but wiser.

主人公が未亡人を愛してるこ とは明白だった。しかし刑事の巧みな心理術と自身が持つ過去のトラウマによって、彼女を完全に信じることができない。 もはや彼女の犯行かどうかより、彼女は主人公をどう想っているか、本当は利用するのが目的ではないか？と観ているこちらまで疑念が募ってくる。 愛することは信じること…なかなかそうもいかない。
