미술사가로서 미국 렌셀러 폴리테크닉 대학 Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute의 전자예술사학과 조교수로 재직 중이다. 저서로는 《The Power of Display: A History of Exhibition Installations at the Museum of Modern Art》(1998), 《Dennis Adams: The Architecture of Amnesia》(1990) 등이 있으며, 주로 근현대 미술과 문화에 관한 탁월한 저술가로 정평이 나 있다.
