The Nutty Professor
1996 · SF/Romance/Fantasy/Comedy · United States
1h 35m

Eddie Murphy stars as shy Dr. Sherman Klump, a kind, brilliant, 'calorifically challenged' genetic professor. When beautiful Carla Purty joins the university faculty, Sherman grows desperate to whittle his 400-pound frame down to size and win her heart. So, with one swig of his experimental fat-reducing serum, Sherman becomes 'Buddy Love', a fast-talking, pumped-up , plumped down Don Juan.

To be honest, even though I am a fan of the comedian actor Eddie Murphy, I could not help but find The Nutty Professor dumb and slightly offensive.... With the moral of the story being shed weight to find romance, it gives off a very superficial feel to the plot and the major character that I could not help but cringe at the lack luster storyline and lack of accuracy to real life representations of romance.

For what it is, it is not great, but not bad either. When you hear the premise of Eddie Murphys "The nutty professor" where he plays several of the characters, you know what kind of movie you are going to get. It's dumb, has some good jokes and some bad ones as well, along with a decent amount of heart.

A good movie that has subtle hints of what’s right and what’s wrong for the people watching to learn and relate to their own life. Has a very wide range of characters that lets us relate their actions to our own life.

Eddie Murphy is one of the funnies comedians in my opinion and is very entertaining in this comedy. However, the humor is very simple and gets less funny as the film goes on. Overall it does not have a lot of depth and I expected a little bit more from it.
