In order to make sure that Koryo was free, Gong Min Wang married a woman he did not love. The Mongolians ruled Koryo so Gong Min Wang married the Mongolian princess in hopes that one day Koryo could be freed. Shin Don was a Buddhist priest who both Queen Nokuk and King Gong Min depended on for advice in ruling Koryo.

송태조의 얼굴과 체형을 지니고, 마치 그의 환생과도 같은 ‘마성(魔星)’ 효의흑삼랑 송강이 송나라를 진정으로 구해내지 못했던 것처럼, 부처님의 염원을 안고 세상에 내려온 ‘지귀(志鬼)’ 청한거사 신돈 역시 고려를 구하지 못했다. 이 드라마는 말법의 세상 속에서, 불완전한 사람들이 이루어질 수 없는 희망의 꿈을 쫓으며 자기실현과 사회적 실현을 이루고자 했으나 결국 미완으로 남은 채 끝나고 마는 애절한 이야기이다.
