11歳の少年マーク・スウェイ（ブラッド・レンフロ）は、ある午後、8歳の弟リッキーと一緒に近くの森に隠れてタバコを吸いに行く。そこで2人は偶然車の排気筒にホースをつなぎ自殺しようとしている男を目撃する。恐怖でパニック状態になっているリッキーが引き留めているのもよそに自殺を防ぐためホースを排気筒から引き抜こうとしたマークは男に気づかれてしまい自殺の道連れを強いられる。男はマークにマフィアに殺された上院議員の死体の隠し場所を告げる。男の隙をついて車外に逃げ、泣きじゃくるリッキーを抱えて陰に隠れるが2人を追ってきた男がピストル自殺を遂げるのを見てしまう。リッキーは精神的ショックから植物人間状態になり入院してしまう。マークは警察の事情聴取に口をつぐんでいた。しゃべったら殺されると思ったからだ。

Anything with Tommy Lee Jones in it has to be good, especially a thriller. I’m a huge fan of old thrillers; looking up critic reviews I’m please to see many agree that it lives up to the description of a fast paced thriller with fun humor. I definitely will need to see it!

I saw it twice and liked it vastly more the second time around, when I'd adjusted my expectations and had my bearings from the get-go. Then it became about digging the spectacle - not to mention the hilarious sexual politics.

A new take on gangster movies, The Client has plenty of action and humor throughout the film. Very suspenseful and will keep you engaged. No need to have read the book because it is just as good, if not better, than the written version of the story.
