連邦政府から19もの州が離脱したアメリカ。テキサスとカリフォルニアの同盟からなる“西部勢力”と政府軍の間で内戦が勃発し、各地で激しい武力衝突が繰り広げられていた。“国民の皆さん、我々は歴史的勝利に近づいている……”。就任 “3期目”に突入した権威主義的な大統領は、テレビ演説で力強く訴えるが、首都ワシントンD.C.の陥落は目前に迫っていた。ニューヨークに滞在するジャーナリスト4人は、14ヵ月もの間、一度も取材を受けていない大統領への単独インタビューを行うため、ホワイトハウスへ向かう。だが彼らは、戦場と化した道を進むにつれて、内戦の恐怖と狂気に呑み込まれていく。

The antagonists don’t have a clear side, so this movie avoids controversy. It really is a movie about journalism.

Civil War was as much of a slog as trudging through the war zones it depicts. Though it displays the raw brutality of war, we do not get much in the way of character development through their journey toward a climax that has a similar lack of depth. This film is worth a rent if there is nothing else available but it is not a theater ticket I would pay for.
