孤児院から脱走してストリートキッズとなったジェシー（ジェーソン・ジェームズ・リクター）はある日、警察に追われて海岸沿いのさびれた水族館に逃げ込む。彼はそこで、水槽の中で泳ぐシャチのウィリーと出会う。警察に捕まり孤児院に連れ戻されたジェシーの身柄は里親のグレン（マイケル・マドセン）とアニー（ジェーン・アトキンソン）夫妻の元へ送られた。夫妻はなんとかジェシーの気を引こうとするが、6年前に彼を捨てた母親がきっと迎えに来ると信じるジェシーは決して心を開かなかった。罰則として水族館のペンキ落としの作業を命じられたジェシーはウィリーと再会する。

Such a touching movie. A little bit overdramatized but still a good movie- it puts a twist on the stereotypical "boy and his dog" theme and instead substitutes a whale. It will make you want to join all the ocean environmental movements.

This movie was one of my favorites as a kid. To see a friendship between a boy and a whale grow especially when it comes to “villains” coming into the way of the friendship. This movie leaves a lot of good memories from the past!
