Wow. This was an absolute waste of a conclusion. This is honestly one of the worst and most disappointing sequels I’ve ever seen. It was a huge wasted opportunity. It’s also probably one of the worst and most disappointing conclusions to a trilogy that I’ve ever seen. It’s a weird trend where the third is always the worst one, and I can never understand why that needs to be a thing. And it’s weird that they even made this film to begin with, I mean when it came out it had been over a decade since The Godfather: Part II, and honestly Part II would’ve been a much better conclusion, because everything about this films was just absolutely unnecessary. Literally nothing about it feels essential to the story at all, never really feeling like it adds much of anything to the Corleone family or this world in any significant way. Al Pacino obviously did his best with what he was given but this film was absolutely destroyed with the new actors and characters that do not have the ability to carry a story that is this complex. I really hate to say this, but Sofia Coppola’s performance is truly AWFUL in this film, and not going to lie there were some pretty laughable moments. This film really just fell right on its face. None of the new character arcs, relationships, or emotional beats leave any form of impact, and a lot of it is just repetition from the previous installments. Even the atmosphere feels empty and lacks the finesse of the previous two films which carried themselves with such grace. And this is like the one thing I would expect to remain consistent. In the end, this was a totally unnecessary third chapter to a story that was better of ending when it did almost two decades before this one. It's bland, it does nothing interesting for characters or the story and this film never warranted its existence at any point. Ignore this film because you have two near-perfect films to focus on prior to this one. It really is better to just skip this one and pretend that the second one is the ending.
