離婚と失業の試練を乗り越え、幼稚園の教師という職に就いたルーカス（マッツ・ミケルセン）は、ようやく穏やかな日常を取り戻した。しかしある日、親友テオ（トマス・ボー・ラーセン）の娘クララ（アニカ・ヴィタコプ）の作り話によって、ルーカスは変質者の烙印を押されてしまう。幼いクララの証言を、町の住人のみならず、親友だと思っていたテオまでもが信じて疑わなかった。無実を証明できる手立てのないルーカスの言葉に、耳を貸す者はいない。仕事も親友も信用も失ったルーカスは、小さな町ですっかり孤立してしまう。彼に向けられる憎悪と敵意はエスカレートし、一人息子のマルクス（ラセ・フォーゲルストラム）にまで危害が及ぶ。ルーカスは、無実の人間の誇りを失わないために、ひたすら耐え続ける生活を余儀なくされる。クリスマス・イブ、追い詰められたルーカスはある決意を胸に、町の住人たちが集う教会へ向かう……。

It was an uncomfortable watch for sure, but I really like how the movie explores the line between rage and rationality. In that kinda situation everyone would instinctively believe the victim, cause an accusation like that is absolutely unforgivable. It shows how easily people judge without knowing the full truth and how serious the consequences of those judgments can be. The church scene is heartbreaking, and Mads performance takes it even further. His acting is restrained, vulnerable, and so human, it makes the moment hit even harder.
