雨降りしきる大都会。また新たな殺人事件が発生し、退職まであと1週間のベテラン、サマセット（モーガン・フリーマン）と血気盛んな新人ミルズ（ブラッド・ピット）の両刑事が現場に急行した。被害者は極限まで肥満した大男で、汚物にまみれ、食べ物の中に顔を埋めた恰好で死んでいた。死因は食物の大量摂取による内蔵破裂。男の後頭部に付けられた銃口の痕から、何者かに、死ぬまで食べ続けるよう強制させられていたことが判明した。そして現場には、犯人が残したものと思われる〈ＧＬＵＴＴＯＮＹ＝大食〉と書かれた文字が残されていた。まもなく次の死体が発見される。凄腕で名高い弁護士グールドが、高級オフィスビルの一室で、血まみれになって殺されていた。そして現場には血で書かれた〈ＧＲＥＥＤ＝強欲〉の文字が……。サマセットは、犯人がキリスト教における「七つの大罪＝憤怒・嫉妬・高慢・肉欲・怠惰・強欲・大食」に基づいて殺人を続けていることを確信、ミルズにあと5人殺されるだろうと告げる。

Although this is portrayed often as a horror film, this thriller kept me on the edge of my seat for the entire movie. I don’t often consider Brad Pitt to be a highly skilled dramatic actor but in this masterwork he almost overshadows the great Morgan Freeman.

An oldie, but a goldie. The film has a cast of many well-known actors and actresses such as Morgan Freeman, Brad Pitt, Kevin Spacy and Gweneth Paltrow. The film is filled with suspense from start to finish and follows the murders of 7 people who the killer deems 'sinful' by the 7 deadly sins. It is one of the best police dramas and is rather gruesome, so I wouldn't recommend watching if you're slightly squeamish. However, if you don't mind this, the film is extremely clever and doesn't have a conventional ending as well, which I love.
