父親の顔も知らず、母親とも引き離された10代の黒人の少年マイケル・オアー（クイントン・アーロン）は、家も寝るところなく、ホームレス同然の生活をしていた。ある真冬の夜、Tシャツと短パン姿で歩いていた彼に、白人女性リー・アン・テューイ（サンドラ・ブロック）が声をかける。マイケルが娘のクラスメートだと知った彼女は、夫ショーン（ティム・マッグロウ）、娘コリンズ（リリー・コリンズ）、息子S・J（ジェイ・ヘッド）と暮らす豪華な邸宅にマイケルを招き入れる。最初は憐れみから一夜の宿を貸しただけだったが、リー・アンはマイケルの瞳に特別な輝きを見出す。

This is a really nice movie about just taking the chance to be kind and sharing one’s heart and home. It’s especially touching that it’s a true story. Some could point out that the plot perpetuates preconceptions of racially determined social roles. However, when viewed with the right mindset, this movie can make us think again about what we are doing to serve others.
