ヴァチカンの教皇が逝去した。新たな教皇を決めるコンクラーベ（教皇選挙）を前に、有力な候補である4人の枢機卿が誘拐される。その陰には、かつてガリレオを中心とした科学者たちによる秘密組織イルミナティの姿があった。科学を信仰するイルミナティは、宗教を第一義とするヴァチカンからの弾圧によって消滅を余儀なくされた組織だった。しかし彼らの残党は、科学の先端技術によって欧州原子核研究機構が生成することに成功し驚異的な破壊力を持つ「反物質」も盗み出して、ヴァチカン全体の破壊をも計画していた。ヴァチカンからの使者の依頼を受けて、ハーバート大学の宗教象徴学者であるロバート・ラングドン教授（トム・ハンクス）はローマへと向かう。

The mysterious thriller "Angel & Demons" is beyond engaging. With the help of actor Tom Hanks, director Ron Howard's vision comes to life. I personally enjoy this franchise as a fan of conspiracy theories. I actually enjoyed this more than The Da Vinci Code. To have a film that stirs controversy tends to appeal to me and so I could not help but enjoy the movie!

Tom Hanks brings an amazing character to life in this movie. This is a smart film that delves into themes of religion and science. Although this film is very religious centric, it is seen as more of a thriller/mystery than a film about religion. The melding of religion and science is also really interesting to watch. It really shows that religion and science can coexist in today's society.

As far as a murder mystery, this one is pretty good. It is not a masterpiece, but entertaining. I like the plot, and I take some pretty decent turns. The acting is fine, but not Oscar-worthy. All in all, just a very fine movie.
