巨大独裁国家パネム。最先端都市キャピトルと12の隷属地区で構成されるこの国では、国民を完全服従させるための見せしめ的イベントとして、毎年1回、ハンガー・ゲームが開催されていた。その内容は、パネムの全12地区それぞれの12～18歳の若者の中から、男女1人ずつの合計24人をプレイヤーとして選出し、最後の1人になるまで戦わせるサバイバル・コンテスト。一部始終が全国に生中継され、パネムの全国民に課せられた義務で、キャピトルの裕福なエリート層にとっては極上の娯楽コンテンツだった。第74回ハンガー・ゲームが開催されることとなり、プレイヤー抽選会が開催された第12地区。カットニス・エバディーン（ジェニファー・ローレンス）は、不運にもプレイヤーに選ばれた12歳の妹プリムローズ（ウィロー・シールズ）に代わってゲーム参加を自ら志願する。男子のプレイヤーに選ばれたのは、同級生ピータ・メラーク（ジョシュ・ハッチャーソン）だった。キャピトルに到着すると、専属スタイリストのシナ（レニー・クラヴィッツ）と対面。ゲームを有利に進めるには、見栄えを良くして積極的にアピールし、スポンサーを獲得する必要があるのだ。続いてカットニスたちは、教育係ヘイミッチ（ウディ・ハレルソン）の指導の下、厳しいトレーニングに打ち込む。そこでサバイバル術や武器の使い方を学びつつ、お互いの力量を探り合う24人。

Hunger games series was a magnificent book. The movies did not fall short. The directors did a wonderful job of portraying the authenticity of the books as the author intended. There is so much real ness as depth to this film. Showing the consequences of standing up for what is right but how it is the best course of action for the greater good

Based on the popular book series by the same title, the Hunger Games does a great job bringing the story to life in a way that will allow for those familiar to the series and those new to it to enjoy it.

Recently rewatched as new movie is set to come out in a few months. Nostalgic of my teen days, still a good film with great suspense and stress. Stanley Tucci was the absolute fucking star and perfect for the role.
