奴隷制度が広がっていた1841年、アメリカ。ニューヨークで家族とともに暮らす自由黒人で音楽家のソロモン（キウェテル・イジョフォー）は、突如誘拐され、奴隷としてアメリカ南部のニューオーリンズへ売り飛ばされた。農園での労働を強いられ、狂信的な選民主義者エップス（マイケル・ファスベンダー）ら白人たちからはむごい差別と虐待を受けながらも、ソロモンは決して人としての尊厳を失うまいと心に決める。いつかまた家族と再会できる日が来ることを信じ続けて耐え忍ぶソロモン。そして12年もの歳月が流れたある日、奴隷制度撤廃を唱えるカナダ人労働者バス（ブラッド・ピット）と出会い、これを機に彼の運命は大きく変わっていく……。

It is a good film to show the conditions of slavery many decades ago. Creates sympathy for those who have suffered and still suffer from the repression of there ancestors. The main character did not appeal to me as he was once a free man whom became a slave than freed again. Majority of the slaves were born into slavery and never live to see anything but that

Actually I saw this movie because I had to do my homework. It was painful to see black people being hurt and I have no idea how hard that time was for them. But it tells me whatever hard things happen we have to believe we can get through them.
