全米で250万枚以上のセールスを記録した大ヒット曲『I can only imagine』。史上最も売れたコンテンポラリー・クリスチャン・ソングであるこの曲が誕生した背景には、作者であるロックバンドMercyMeのヴォーカル、バート・ミラード（J.マイケル・フィンレイ）の半生が大きく関わっていた……。バートは暴力的な父アーサー（デニス・クエイド）のもとで幼少期を過ごしていたが、決して優しさを忘れなかった。高校時代に歌の才能を見出されたバートは、父のもとから離れ音楽の道へと進んでいく。一方アーサーは本心ではバートとわかり合いたいと願っているものの、その気持ちを素直に現すことができず、バートが去っていくのを止められない。バートはミュージシャンとして順調にキャリアを積んでいるように思われたが、ある日音楽業界の手痛い洗礼を受けてしまう。自信を無くし全てを捨てて故郷に戻ってきたバートに対し、アーサーは過去の自分を悔い息子とわかり合おうとするが、バートはそんな父の思いを信じることができない。しかしアーサーの身にはあることが起こっており……。

From a Christian perspective, this movie is really good. From anyone else's perspective, it should at the very least be inspiring and convicting about the importance of forgiveness. The acting is good and although the plot is a little predictable, it's a heartfelt movie that does not go over the top in being evangelical.

Awful movie, do not waste your time on this hunk of trash. This movie is so unrealistic off the deep end it is not even possible to become emotionally invested in.

Based on the song with the same title, this film appeals mostly to a Christian audience, where it resounds heavily. However, it may not be as much of a hit with non-Christian viewers. One of the best parts about it is that it is not "preachy".
