南北戦争末期の1864年。南軍兵士としてヴァージニア州の戦場に送られたインマン（ジュード・ロウ）は、瀕死の重傷を負って病院に収容される。回復を待つ間、彼の脳裏に浮かぶのは、3年前に離れた故郷コールドマウンテンの情景と、出征前にただ一度だけ口づけを交わした恋人エイダ（ニコール・キッドマン）の面影だった。彼女への愛に駆り立てられたインマンは、脱走兵として死罪に問われるのを覚悟で、故郷への道を歩み出す。一方、その間に父のモンロー牧師（ドナルド・サザーランド）を亡くす不幸に見舞われたエイダは、裕福な環境から、明日の食べ物にも事欠く苦境に陥っていた。そんな彼女を見かねて、隣人のサリー（キャシー・ベイカー）は、流れ者の女ルビー（レニー・ゼルウィガー）をエイダの農場に向かわせた。ルビーの指導によって、エイダはたくましく生きる術を身につけていく……。

As a fan of war films and romance films, this film seems like the one for me. The Cast, Nicole Kidman and Jude Law bring a stunning romance story to life. It seems to be a nice light hearted old fashioned film.

Cold Mountain is a well-done historical movie that takes place during the American Civil War. The musical score is romantic and magnificent and the cinematography is astounding and stunningly made. The film will appeal to emotion enthusiasts and romantic films fans. Cold Mountain is above average and well worth watching.
