昼下がりの決斗
スティーブ・ジャッド（ジョエル・マクリー）は、かつて名保安官として鳴らした男だったが、今では西部の人々からも忘れ去られていた。ところが、シエラ山中のコース・ゴールドに金が発見され再び彼が脚光を浴びることになった。コース・ゴールドの人たちが、掘り当てた金を預け入れるために銀行の出張を熱望したため、その重任にふさわしい人として正義の男ジャッドが選ばれたのだ。黄金を預かっての帰りの山道はあらゆる危険が予想されるため、彼は協力者2人を雇うことにした。彼が適任者として選んだのはかつてＵＳマーシャルとして音に聞こえたガンマンのジル・ウェストラム（ランドルフ・スコット）と、ウェストラムの推薦になるヘック・ロングツリー（ロナルド・スター）である。だがジャットが信用しているウェストラムは、実は1日10ドルの日当より莫大な黄金がめあてだった。
