15世紀中頃、ワラキアの王ヴラド・ドラキュラ公（ゲイリー・オールドマン）は、トルコ軍との戦いで奇跡的な勝利をおさめるが、最愛の王妃エリザベータ（ウィノナ・ライダー）は、王の戦死の誤報を聞き、城砦から身を投げた。ヴラドは怒り狂い、神への永世の復讐を誓った。1897年、英国人の青年弁護士ジョナサン・ハーカー（キアヌ・リーヴス）は、トランシルヴァニア地方にある城へやって来る。彼の前任者の同僚レンフィールド（トム・ウェイツ）は、この城で発狂してしまった。城で彼を待っていたのは、ドラキュラ伯爵（ゲイリー・オールドマン）という老人だった。ハーカーが彼を不審に思った時には既に遅く、監禁され、3人のドラキュラの花嫁たちに血を吸われるが、決死の逃亡を図り修道院に保護される。ロンドンでは、ハーカーの婚約者ミナ（ウィノナ・ライダー_二役）が、夢遊病を患う親友のルーシー（サディ・フロスト）の看護をしていたが、街中で不思議な男に出会い、心を惹かれる。

This version of Dracula is pretty well done. The hazy film-making is visually satisfying, and some of the special effects are - simply put - amazing. Overall, Dracula is a good film and is worth seeing for its visuals alone. It is not, however, the strongest adaptation of Bram Stoker's novel.

This movie is full of metaphors. Compared to other horror movies that are filled with violence and immorality, this movie is interesting in that you have to find the hidden meanings of the metaphorical references. The story is also unique in that there are clear emotional ties between all the characters that make up the cast.
