現代のサンフランシスコ。とある部屋で、マスコミでのし上がろうとする野心的な若者クリス（クリスチャン・スレイター）が、漆黒の髪の美青年ルイ（ブラッド・ピット）へインタビューを始めたが、その内容は驚くべきものだった。18世紀末の米ニューオリンズ。フランス移民のルイは当時25歳。最愛の妻と娘を亡くして絶望する彼に、美貌の吸血鬼レスタト（トム・クルーズ）が近づく。彼は、人間らしく揺れ動く、繊細な魂のルイに興味を覚え、永遠の命を共にする伴侶として彼を選ぶ。首筋にレスタトの牙を立てられて死亡したルイは、間もなく吸血鬼として蘇生した。だが、彼は大胆で冷酷なレスタトとは対照的に、他人の命を奪って生きることに耐えられない。レスタトは瀕死の少女クローディア（キルスティン・ダンスト）を自分たちの同族に仕立て、ルイに与える。クローディアはルイと違い、吸血鬼の生活にすぐになじんだ。次々と人間を襲い、その血を吸う彼女の心は成長しても、体は子供のままだった。彼女はその悲しみといらだちをレスタトにぶつけ、やがて彼を殺してルイと2人で遠くへ旅立とうと計画する。

Not much happens in the plot sense, and certainly not the best vampire movie ever made even though it is faithful to its mythology and traditions. Props to production & costume designers, makeup artists, Neil Jordan and the entire cast. Interview with the Vampire mainly focuses on Louis's endless sadness of being a vampire, but doesn't forget to provide some Gothic thrills.

Based on the book with the same name Interview with the Vampire is a classic in the vampire film genre. Sufficiently Romantic, and oozing with talent, Interview with the Vampire continues to delight and offer a view into the taboo and mysterious.

I saw it twice and liked it vastly more the second time around, when I'd adjusted my expectations and had my bearings from the get-go. Then it became about digging the spectacle - not to mention the hilarious sexual politics.
