アメリカ・ネブラスカ州インペリアル市で牧師を務める傍ら小さな修理会社を営むトッド（グレッグ・キニア）には、3人の子供がいた。ある日、3歳の長男コルトン（コナール・コラム）が高熱に見舞われ嘔吐を繰り返すようになる。緊急搬送され穿孔虫垂炎であることがわかり、2度に渡り手術が行われた。コルトンは医師にもなすすべがないと言わるほどの状態で、生死をさまよう。トッドは絶望のあまり、神に私の息子を奪う気かと叫んでいた。その甲斐あってか、奇跡的にコルトンは一命を取り留める。やがて回復した彼は天国を旅してきたと言い、天国の様子や彼が知らないはずのことについて話し始める。トッドたちはこの驚くような話について、その意味を考えるようになる――。

Although its credibility has been questioned, this is a thought-provoking and inspiring story. At the very least, a little boy experienced and learned of things that his parents could not explain. Is the resulting story 100% true? I think probably not, as Colton could not tell it for himself. However, the movie (and book, which is more detailed) presents some very intriguing questions about who we are, who God is, and what exists beyond our known reality.
