ティム（ジャスティス・スミス）は少年の頃はポケモンのことが大好きだったが、父のハリーがポケモンに関する事件の捜査に向かったきり家に戻らず、父とポケモンを遠ざけるようになった。歳月が流れ大人になったティムのもとに、ある日、ハリーと同僚だったというヨシダ警部（渡辺謙）から父が事故で死んだとの知らせが。複雑な思いを胸に、荷物を整理するため人間とポケモンが共存する街・ライムシティにあるハリーの部屋に向かったところ、自分にしか聞こえない人間の言葉を話す名探偵ピカチュウ（ライアン・レイノルズ）と出会う。ハリーの相棒だったピカチュウは事故の衝撃で記憶を失っていたが、ハリーがまだ生きていると確信していた。ハリーが姿を消した真相、そしてライムシティで起こる事件を、ティムとピカチュウの新コンビが追っていく。

Although the tale told with in this film was mildly predictable, I feel that this was a failure of the genre not the writing. Ryan Reynolds performance in this movie was excellent! We also got to see some skillful execution of realistic versions of childhood favorite Pokémon in a mildly gritty setting. The most important aspect of this movie was that it was entertaining to watch although a little flat in full character development.
