Dave Bowman: What's the problem? HAL: I think you know what the problem is just as well as I do. Dave Bowman: What are you talking about, HAL? HAL: This mission is too important for me to allow you to jeopardize it. Dave Bowman: I don't know what you're talking about, HAL. HAL: I know that you and Frank were planning to disconnect me, and I'm afraid that's something I cannot allow to happen. Dave Bowman: [feigning ignorance] Where the hell did you get that idea, HAL? HAL: Dave, although you took very thorough precautions in the pod against my hearing you, I could see your lips move. Dave Bowman: Alright, HAL. I'll go in through the emergency airlock. HAL: Without your space helmet, Dave? You're going to find that rather difficult. Dave Bowman: HAL, I won't argue with you anymore! Open the doors! HAL: Dave, this conversation can serve no purpose anymore. Goodbye.

I find it hard to put into words why i like this movie so much. To me this is the perfect example of movie magic. The amazing visuals, groundbreaking effects and glorious music somehow add up to more of just the sum of its parts. The story is good and its well handeled by Kubrick, but i lack the words to say anything beyond that. Just go see it really, i might be long, and not for everyone but I really really like it.

이 영화는 무조건 졸 수 밖에 없는 영화다. 매우 지루하다. 배경음악도 딱히 없고 우주의 그 고요하고 차가운 분위기를 그대로 전달한다. 그럼에도 불구하고 5점을 주는 이유는 이 영화를 기점으로 세계영화산업이 큰 터닝포인트를 맞았을 것임이 너무나 분명하기 때문이다. 60년대에 미래사회에 대한 이러한 예측을 한 스탠리 큐브릭의 천재성이 너무나 충격적이다. 인공지능, 태블릿화면, 영상통화, 모던한 가구디자인 등등 그냥 할말을 잃을 정도로 놀라운 요소들로 가득한 영화다. 내 인생 최고의 영화인 인터스텔라도 이 영화에 감명 받았다고 하니 더 이상 할말이 없다. 이건 단순히 한 영화가 아니라 인류의 역사에 기록되야 할 엄청난 문화재산이라고 생각한다
