米海軍の歴戦の英雄ハメル准将（エド・ハリス）は、12人の部下と共に海軍兵器庫から致死性の神経ガス・ロケット弾を奪うと、観光客81人を人質にアルカトラズ島を占拠。ロケットの照準をサンフランシスコに向けた。ハメルが奪った新兵器の神経ガスを燃焼し、効力を失わせることができるのはプラズマ兵器だけだが、未だ開発中でタイムリミットまでに間に合うかはおぼつかない。残る手段はただ一つ、島に潜入してロケットの発射装置を除去するしかない。ＦＢＩの化学兵器スペシャリスト、スタンリー・グッドスピード（ニコラス・ケイジ）がその任務に選ばれた。かつて脱獄不可能な刑務所として知られたアルカトラズは、もともと複雑な設計に加えて増改築を繰り返したため、内部を知る者は誰もいない。

A highly enjoyable action film. Sean Connery is very good and has a surprisingly decent character for a Michael Bay film. The same can be said about Nicholas Cage, who does some good work here. Ed Harris also has a pretty good villain character. All in all, it is just a pretty good movie, just relax and enjoy.

The Rock is action packed, but followed with a meaningful story that relates to today. While it bends the facts a tad for action and interest sake, its central story of modern terrorism is compelling and thought-provoking. I highly recommend this movie to action lovers.

Can you really go wrong with Sean Connery. This film isn't my top of this genre, but it's s fun and I found it pretty enjoyable. I've only really seen it once, but I would still recommend it to fans of thrillers.
