고등학교 시절부터 알고지낸 다이아나(데미 무어 분)와 데이빗(우디 해럴슨 분)은 비록 가난하지만 서로를 끊임없이 사랑하고 아끼는 부부이다. 남편의 꿈인 집을 지을 적당한 장소를 발견한 후 땅을 사기 위해 대출을 받지만 불행히 주가가 하락해 하루아침에 모든 것을 잃고 만다. 돈이 절실한 데이빗과 다이아나는 라스베가스로 향하지만 이틀 만에 빈털터리가 된 후 실의에 빠져 돌아가려는 그들에게 억만장자 존 게이지(로버트 레드포드 분)로부터 뜻밖의 초대를 받는다. 그리고 존은 다이아나와의 하룻밤에 대한 대가로 1백만 달러를 제안한다. 두 사람은 존의 급작스런 제안으로 당황하게 되는데...

The plot to Indecent Proposal was a bit unrealistic to me and I couldn't find myself relating to the film. It was entertaining to watch, of course, and it wasn't the worst movie I've ever watched, but I don't see myself watching it again any time soon.

This film is actually one of the best of that year. If you want to know what budding young relationships look like in America these days, this is the most pleasurable tutorial you'll ever see.
