We see the bad sides of Stephan as Damon becomes the good guy that we al root for. No one ever sees that coming. Katherine becomes a lot more troublesome because of her carelessness for others and selfish need to survive at all costs. Elena has to develop as a person as everything forces her to grow up and stand up for her own self interest
