출구 없는 섬, 누군가 사라졌다. 범죄자들이 수용된 정신병원과 등대만이 존재하는 섬 ‘셔터 아일랜드’. 탈출이 불가능한 그 섬의 정신병원은 일반병동과 위험도가 높은 환자들이 수감된 격리병동으로 이루어져 있다. 어느 날, 일반병동에서 한 환자가 흔적도 없이 사라지고, 조사를 위해 연방보안관 ‘테디 다니엘스’와 그의 파트너 ‘척 아울’이 ‘셔터 아일랜드’로 파견된다. 실종자의 방에서 의미불명의 쪽지를 찾은 ‘테디’와 ‘척’은 병원 곳곳을 조사하며 그 의미를 찾으려 하지만, 병원관계자들은 무언가를 숨기고 있는 듯한 묘한 분위기를 풍긴다. 그러던 중 갑작스런 폭풍이 섬을 덮치고, 그들은 외부의 어떤 도움도 받을 수 없는 상태로 섬에 갇히고 마는데…

I was recommended this film by one of my friends who was incredulous that I had never watched it. It is absolutely amazing, and psychologically challenging, so you've got to watch the film once through then I'd recommend watching it through another time to make up your mind. The premise is that Leonardo di Caprio's character arrives on an island that people never seem to leave and discovers that the place has horrible secrets and he's worried that he'll also never leave. However, he then starts to question his own sanity. I think the film is so clever, and if you're looking for a very interesting and challenging film to watch, it is truly amazing and I really can't recommend it enough.
