평범한 고교생인 야가미 라이토. 그는 전국에서 알아주는 우수한 성적을 가지고 있지만 매일 똑같은 하루에 지루함을 느끼곤 한다. 그러던 어느 날 하늘에서 검은 노트가 라이토 앞에 떨어진다. 그 노트는 사신계에서 떨어진 죽음의 노트. 그 노트에 이름이 적힌 자는 반드시 죽게 되는 노트인 데스노트였다. 라이토는 데스노트를 이용해 세상의 신이 되겠다는 계획을 세우고, 노트의 주인인 류크와 함께 데스노트를 이용해 세상의 범죄자들을 차례차례 죽여나가지만 이런 사건이 하나 둘씩 터지자 각 국가의 경찰들은 비상사태를 맞는다. 그리하여 그들은 탐정 L을 고용, 이 사건의 진범을 찾기로 하는데… 라이토와 L의 숨막히는 추리 게임이 시작된다!!!

The first anime I ever watched, this series is an excellent thriller mystery. Based on dark themes, it’s honestly better than any other cop drama I have seen. It’s also excellently unusual for the main character to be the villain, so this concept was very fresh. The side characters are also important, even if the main battle is a face off of wits between Light and L to see who can beat the other first. I also compare many animes to this one because the plot is well driven, and the story is so well played out. The characters are interesting and there’s never a dull moment in watching it.
