생계와 가사, 육아를 모두 담당해야 하는 아내는 피로하다. 한 푼이라도 더 벌고 더 절약하기 위해 악을 쓰지만 가슴에는 커다란 구멍이 뚫린 듯하다. 언제부턴가 남편과는 대화도 되지 않고 밤새 이어지는 남편과 동료들의 술자리는 알 수 없는 웅얼거림만이 있다. 이윽고 새벽이 오면 그들은 떠나고 '아내'는 술상을 치운다. 세상은 변했고 남편은 지쳐버렸단다. (A woman leads a tiresome life trying to make ends meet, doing housework, and bring up her children. She tries her best to save money but she feels something is missing inside of her. She cannot communicate with her husband who brings his friends home at night to drink; they all seem to be speaking in incomprehensible gibberish.)  연출의도. 먹고사는 얘기를 하고 싶었다. 특히 자기 아이들을 '민주', 혹은 '한결', '들풀'이라고 부르며 팍팍하게 90년대를 살아내고 있는 사람들의 얘기를 하고 싶었다. 80년대 끄트머리에 몸을 실은 나는 그들의 삶을 머리 숙여 존경하지만 한편으로는 몹시 가슴 아프다. 이제는 더 이상 후일담을 되내이지 않고 새로운 출발의 용기를 키워야 할 것 같다. 이 영화를 기점으로 나는 달라지려고 한다. 나를 비롯해서 많은 사람들이 우리의 어머니와 아내, 형수들이 꾸리는 여성의 진정한 모습을 잘 모르고 있다. 나는 이 영화에서 그 여성들의 들풀 같은 생활을 보여주고 싶었다. 아울러 모성애에 기반한 여성의 본성적인 강인함을 담보로 끊임없이 인내와 수고를 요구하는 우리사회의 가부장적인 성의 구도를 드러내고 싶었다. (I wanted to make a film about the ordinary lives of people. I wanted to show the lives of people in the 90s who give their children flowery names but live lives that are dry and difficult. I, who had lived along with them through the end of the 80s, deeply respected these people, and yet, I also felt a deep sadness for them. I will reminisce no longer and try to gather up the courage to make a new beginning. With this film, I will try to change myself. I and many other men do not truly know the women who are our mothers, wives, and sisters. In this film, I wanted to show the courage and patience of these women.
