There's just enough said/not said and shown/not shown that the actors can balance between different truths: Sandra and Samuel have different "sides" that are played off of each other, so much so that I can't be sure who they really are. Overall, I think that the balance is very well kept; You could honestly look at this movie from 100 different perspectives and see 100 different possibilities
Sandra Hüllers' performance was also amazing; she was able to control the narrative enough to make me feel bad for her one moment, and then suspect her the next. I'm sure that also has to do with her character's occupation as an author -- she is used to controlling her novel's narratives and can be seen trying to control the record of what actually happened (is she though?). The significance of languages was also super interesting; English is used as a "middle ground" in which neither party has to step into the other's territories (French and German) --> a further disconnect in Samuel and Sandra's relationship OMG WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU GIVE THE DOG ASPIRIN ITS NEVER THAT SERIOUS YOU ALMOST KILLED HIM I also found the courtroom scenes great everyone was so passive aggressive.
Rs tho, Daniel's a real one his writing was amazing and was so mature and well spoken he's definitely my favorite. -- Quotes/scenes i liked! -- "I can only trust someone if I can put an animal's head on them."
"What am I?"
"I don't know." "I loved him, but how do you prove that?" "Sometimes a couple kind of a chaos...It's possible that Samuel needed to see things the way you described them, but if I'd been seeing a therapist, he could stand here too and say very ugly things about Samuel. *But would those things be true*?"
