<잠자는 숲속의 공주>의 마녀 말레피센트의 이야기. 아름답고 순수한 마음을 가진 말레피센트는 마법의 숲을 지키는 수호자이다. 숲속 요정들과 즐거운 나날을 보내던 어느 날, 숲을 침범한 인간 스테판을 만나게 되고 친구가 된다. 성인이 된 둘은 서로 사랑하는 사이가 되지만 야망에 사로잡힌 스테판은 말레피센트의 약점을 이용해 숲을 왕국에 바치고 왕이된다. 순수한 마음이 돌처럼 굳어버린 말레피센트는 분노에 가득차 복수를 감행한다. 그녀의 강력한 마법으로 스테판의 갓 태어난 딸 오로라에게 16살 이 되면 물레 바늘에 찔려 죽음과 같은 잠에 빠진다는 저주를 내린 것. 하지만 오로라가 자라날수록 말레피센트의 굳은 마음이 조금씩 사랑으로 변하기 시작한다.

When I saw this film I knew I needed to comment on it. Sleeping Beauty was my childhood favorite princess film! Aurora was my princess so Maleficent was my bad guy. When I first saw the trailer for this film I thought it was going to be a darker and more real take on the story. Live remakes of our favorite Disney princess films have been coming out and most of them have been pleasantly enjoyable; to my disappointment the one I found least enjoyable and wouldn't mind forgetting it exist, is this one. Elle Fanning was so impressive in the film "Super 8" and so I can't completely blame her acting skills for the lack of character development; so I'll blame the writing or directing because I can barley remember any details of both Aurora and Maleficent's character.
