미국 펜실베니아 주 벅스 카운티에 소재한 그래함 헤스(멜 깁슨)의 농장 주택! 집안에서 바라본 창밖 세상에는 평화로운 기운만 가득하다. 그런데 바로 그 때 2층 창문의 투명한 유리가 물결치듯이 잠시 일렁이는 것이 아닌가! 그 유리창을 통해 누가 창밖을 보고 있었던 것일까? 바로 그 날 아침 그래함(멜 깁슨)은 아이들과 애완견의 비명소리에 놀라 잠에서 깨어나 밖으로 달려 나간다. 그리곤 경악을 금치 못한다. 자신의 옥수수 농장에서 이상한 흔적이 발견된 것이다. 그것은 원과 선으로 된 복잡한 패턴의 미스테리 서클(mystery circle)이었다. 그 날 이후 그래함은 미스테리 서클이 무엇을 말하려는 메시지인지, 그리고 그것이 왜 하필 자신의 옥수수 농장에 만들어져 있는 것인지에 관하여 미스테리를 풀어나가는 과정에서 충격적인 존재와 마주치게 된다. 그래함이 목격한 존재는 그 자신뿐만 아니라 동생 메릴(호아킨 피닉스), 아들 모건(로리 컬킨), 어린 딸 보(아비게일 브레슬린)의 인생에도 엄청난 충격과 변화를 초래하게 되는데...!

M. Night Shyamalan is a director known for his questionable choices. The film "Signs" is definitely not the easiest to follow and does feel like everything is crammed into one cinematic moment to try and create a masterpiece. This film is by no means a masterpiece on any form. Although, I will admit the intense moments of sensitivity were quite interesting but not magical enough for a 4 or 5 star rating.

배울만한 연출이 많았다.. 외계인 모건을 잡았을 때 난투극 말고 떨어진 손전등을 보여주다가 숨어있는 보를 향해 비춰서 보가 나타나는 연출 인상깊었다. 복선이 딱딱 맞춰질 때의 쾌감!

Signs is a mediocre alien suspense movie from M Night Shyamalan. Not as good as his earlier films, but not as bad as his later ones, Signs is genuinely creepy at times, but suffers from too many cliches, implausibility, and terrible costume design.

Mel Gibson shines in this subtle performance as a Dad who turned his back on faith but with the arrival of extraterrestrials is forced to confront his past and his faith. A great symbolic film that points to the fact that things may indeed have some greater purpose. It intertwines this natural phenomenon with this individual’s story super well.
