This is the heartbreaking story between two unlikely friends: an imprisoned Jewish boy, and the son of a nazi official. The two boys don't really comprehend their situations, which makes the film such a hard watch. Their friendship is beautiful and is so emotional in its nature since the two boys are so alike, but different in their predetermined futures. The film is based on the book, which I believe you should read before watching the film, but if reading isn't your thing, the film is an accurate representation of the book.

Although most holocaust movies tend to lean towards the documentary feel- this film makes the viewer feel connected to the characters and presents the horrible events of the holocaust in a more personal, emotional light.

This movie made me cry when I first watched it as a middle schooler and it still makes me cry now as a university student! Depicted the scenes during the war pretty good. This is something you can watch as a family to explain to younger ones what had happened.
